Seaweeds Processing Plant In Shariff Kabunsuan Province

A five million (P5M) worth Seaweeds Processing Plant,  a pilot project for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to produce Alkali Treated Chips, will soon operate in  Parang, Shariff Kabunsuan Province and the nearby provinces to the benefit of the seaweed farmers in the area.

 

This was an output of the 1st Seaweeds Congress in the ARMM last February 27-28 at Estosan Hotel, Cotabato City which was spearheaded by the Seaweeds Industry Association of the Philippines (SIAP) and BFAR-ARMM.

Mindanao-Palawan Seaweeds Mission To Sabah, Malaysia In February 11-17, 2007

The Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO), in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources(BFAR), has organized a mission to Sabah, Malaysia, last February 11-17.

This is part of the measures being undertaken by the Philippine government to improve the seaweeds industry in the country.

The mission, which was composed of public and private fishery officials from Mindanao and Palawan, is intended to bolster the performance of the country’s seaweeds industry.

The delegation was spearheaded by the BIMP-EAGA Fisheries Coordinator for Mindanao and Palawan, Mr. George Campeon, Regional Director of BFAR XI-Davao Region. Also with the team is Mr. Keise Usman, BFAR-ARMM Regional Director and Mr. Virgilio Alforque,Region IX-Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Director to provide the mission with technical assistance.

OIC Representatives Visit ARMM

Cotabato City- Envoys of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) met with Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) yesterday as part of their field visit to Southern Philippines.

The delegation, composed of representatives from the OIC Secretary General and diplomats of OIC's Committee of the Eight, will go around to identified areas in Mindanao to assess the implementation of the 1996 GRP-MNLF Final Peace Agreement.

Among them were Libyan Ambassador Salem Adam, Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Ameen Mohammed Wali, Indonesian Ambassador Irzan Tandjung, Malaysian Charge d' Affaires Wan Jaafar Mahamud, Ambassador Muhammad Abui Quashem of Bangladesh and Ambassador Emaleen Abdul Rahman Teo of Brunei.

Regional Board Of Investments Conducts IPP/NILE

On May 12, 2006. Networking on Investments with Local Exacutives (NILE) together with Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) was conducted at the Municipality of Wao, Lanao del Sur.This was designed to let Local Government Unit Executives be aware of the role of the municipality/city government towards investment promotion. One part of the workshop of the NILE was the identification of the preferred investment areas which is also needed for inclusion in the IPP. Hence, the Board of Investment was required to design a Regional Investment Priorities Plan through consultation with private sector, government, non-government organization and people’s organization; review and update  in identifying and listing of investment priorities plan to be submitted to the national BOI for consolidation before it is endorsed to the President for approval.

ARMM Officials' Japan Educational Tour

EIGHT (8) ARMM OFFICIALS ON 2 WEEKS JICA SPONSORED EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO JAPAN


Eight (8) ARMM officials from different ARMM offices went on a two (2) weeks training program as part of the ARMM Human Resource Development Program under the auspices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This is part of the support package for peace and stability in Mindanao by the Government of Japan. The eight (8) trainees were expected to achieve the following objectives:

 

  1. To observe the agricultural/fisheries and their activities in local areas, in order to expand the knowledge about the agriculture/fisheries promotion by local government;
  2. To visit the local governments who have made a satisfactory achievement in local development, and to exchange their views with officials through discussion;
